North Sámi Dictionary

The dictionary is based upon Nils Jernsletten's Álgosátnegirji. Some of the words are changed in order to reflect today's written norm. We have also added words from textbooks commonly in use in Sámi introductory courses. The dictionary contains 5122 lemmata, but it also contains most inflected forms of each lemma. For verbs, nouns, numerals and adjectives the key forms of the paradigm in question.

You may install the dictionary on your own machine. We will release new, updated version later. We also work on a Norwegian-Sámi version of the dictionary.

NB! April 2009: Our new version shows inflectional paradigms also for pronouns, it has more examples, but the most important change is that we have managed to show correct paradigms for words with different paradigms but common baseform.

• Installing the dictionaries on your own computer (Mac OS 10.5 or newer) (the dictionary unfortunately doesn't work on Mac OS X older than 10.5)
• Installing the dictionaries on your own computer (Windows, Linux, older Macs)

We work on other dictionaries as well, but they are not ready yet. People too eager to wait may have a look here.
